What do you think when you hear the word “anxious attachment”? How about “avoidant-resistant” or even “disorganized, disoriented attachment?” Sounds intense, right?
You might be worried that that’s you, and you would rather not know. And, yes it might be you (and many other people too), and that’s okay! Most people are actually one of these types (or a combination of them), and your “type” is not a life sentence. It is insight, and that is potential for growth.
Since John Bowlby’s Ethological Theory of Attachment (1958), and Mary Ainsworth’s Strange Situation Test (1970), attachment theory has had quite a resurgence in Millennial popular culture, and for good reason.
